Eleven of them. Same cut, one size too big, all bought off the same sad rack at the back of the same store. I called it a uniform. It was camouflage.

Then I saw the photo from my brother’s wedding. Rented jacket, shoulders sitting three inches past my own, sleeves swallowing my knuckles. I looked like a man apologizing for taking up space in his own family photo.

I’m 6’2″ and I wear a 3XL. That jacket wasn’t built for me. It was built for everyone above a certain size, which is a completely different thing.

So I spent nine years in big and tall menswear figuring out why. Now I write it all down here.
